Third Place

Sometimes the best things you find are those you are not looking for.

Especially with coffee spots. When we travel I do a quick research on what’s the coolest cafes to go for a cuppa and then as a rule we always find something new that we haven’t heard or read about and eventually it’s better than all recommended places.

Good coffee is THE must, but the atmosphere and the look of the place plays important part of the whole ‘going out for coffee’ experience

That’s how we found Third Place in Athens. We’ve spotted this coffee shop late at night wandering around the city and it’s catchy name and what seemed to be trendy interior inside made us come back next day to check it out when it was open. And what a gem it was.

According to American sociologist Ray Oldenburg the idea of a public, social place as a third thing outside of home and work has been around for centuries, but it was never a big value. Whereas now we can’t imagine our lives without casual spaces.

Third Place as a coffee shop reflects well on the term and the name wasn’t chosen by accident, but it’s a mix of all three. They claim themselves it’s home away from home and the experience is very close – we definitely felt relaxed there and not bothered by too much unnecessary attention. And I would love to have industrial vibe at home. Likewise it’s a space with no rules where you are able to choose your own corner according to your personal need – whether just sipping coffee, a space to work on your laptop or even capacity to hold a meeting.

I never take my camera to the toilet, but after going once, I had to come back. Pink is not my thing, but just wow. Everything is devoted to one color. Literally everything. And it’s pure joy for the eye.

This is one Instagram worthy bathroom and must be most famous in Athens.

If you are a digital nomad then Third Place is made for you. And if (when) I’m back to Athens I’ll go there for the Flat White.
